How the career fairs work

Our career fairs are two-day career and interview fair for students and alumni of Greater New Orleans areas colleges and universities. Job seekers are expected to dress for a professional career fair or interviewing situation which includes professional business suits for men and professional wear for ladies.

Job seekers wearing jeans, tennis shoes and inappropriate clothing will not be allowed to enter the fair. You should dress professional, but comfortable (particularly your shoes, break them in before you come to the fair) there will be many employers in the space.

Since they are two-day events, it's important to know what happens on each day:

Career Fair

Parking is not free downtown, all job seekers should plan to take the shuttle from their individual school.

When you arrive at the fair, you will check in at the Student Registration Table and have a nametag made for you. You should place your nametag on your right-side so employers can see it while you are shaking their hand.

Employers from every major industry across the United States will be gathered to discuss career opportunities with their organization. Some may not accept resumes and there is no way to know that until they get here. However, you should still talk with them and follow any post career fair instructions they provide such as applying through their website.

Most employers will be discussing full-time (post-graduation) and internship opportunities. Some employers may have part-time jobs available, but the emphasis of this event are for careers in professional fields.

Each employer will have a table and usually a display set-up to showcase their company.

Many employers will request that you complete an online application. This is not uncommon and does not mean they are not interested in you.

Many employers will be arranging 30 minute interviews for the next day at the same location. Additionally, some employers may also ask you to interview that day in another room in the Superdome. You will need to be aware of your schedule and when you can interview with companies. It is not uncommon to have more than one interview back-to-back.

When you are granted an interview, you will need to confirm your interview at the Interview Confirmation Headquarters before you leave for the day.

Interview Fair

It is YOUR responsibility to get to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome for your interview. Please plan ahead of time to facilitate getting to the location on time. You will have to pay for parking if you drive, so you may want to carpool.

The interviews will be in the same location as the job fair. You will need to check in at the Student Registration Table and then have a seat in the waiting area. If you have more than one interview , then you may check in for all of them at the same time. You will be called when ready.

Company representatives will "pick you up" from the waiting area when it is time to interview.

Please plan on dressing professional and you may want to bring extra copies of your resume.
